Milling off car park coatings: remove OS 11 on patches, columns and junctions

In a multi-storey or underground car park, the old coating has to come off at damaged spots, edges and junctions – cleanly bounded and at a defined depth. The ATLAS drum milling machine mills 82 mm wide, you set the depth on the machine; the shop lists the PCD milling drum for OS 11 and OS 8.

What matters here

  • Where large machines cannot reach

Columns, wall junctions, ramps, gullies and kerbs are left over when working the main area. This is where hand work follows – with a tool that holds the same depth.

  • Bound patches cleanly

Repairs often concern individual bays or damaged spots. The drum mills a strip with a clear edge; the milling depth is set, not dependent on contact pressure.

  • Lots of milled material, closed ceiling

Parking levels produce a lot of milled material, underground car parks under a closed ceiling. The removed material is captured at the drum and taken into the vacuum, for large amounts via a pre-separator.

Step by step

  1. Choose the milling drum

According to the shop, the ATLAS Milling Drum PCD Black is designed with 14 defined PCD cutting edges for particularly hard and abrasive coatings and lists “OS11/OS8 coatings” under “suitable materials”, along with asphalt and mastic asphalt. If the concrete itself is to be milled afterwards: Diamond Red (medium bond) for concrete and old concrete.

Note: Unsure which drum suits your build-up? Galeski advises: galeski.shop/en/contact/

  2. Extraction with pre-separator

The guard with extraction hose takes the removed material to the vacuum: Dustcleaner 200 (dust class H, HEPA filter) or Dustcleaner 300 (dust class M). According to the shop, the Cyclone 501 upstream separates 98–99 % of the extracted material into its 50 litre drum and protects the vacuum filter.

  3. Set the depth, mill the strips

On the ATLAS Max 82 you set the milling depth continuously and without tools, 0–10 mm per pass; “variable infeed depth” says the Manufaktur video, which shows two milled strips of different depth in a car park coating. The drum rotation throws the milled material straight towards the extraction.

  4. Edges and junctions

On the ATLAS Max 82 you adjust the machine body up to 150° to the milling drum during work, continuously or in 12 detent positions; on the ATLAS Max 82 BL almost continuously to beyond vertical. In the Manufaktur video: “precise edge work” right into the corner.

Which ATLAS for the parking deck?

All three mill 82 mm wide and 0–10 mm deep with the PCD milling drum. They differ in motor, drive and weight.

Frequently asked questions

Which milling drum for OS 11?

According to the shop, the ATLAS Milling Drum PCD Black: it lists “OS11/OS8 coatings” under “suitable materials”. Galeski advises on questions about the build-up: galeski.shop/en/contact/

How deep can I mill?

0–10 mm per pass on the ATLAS Max 82, ATLAS Max 82 BL, Air ATLAS Pro and Air ATLAS Max, 0–8 mm on the ATLAS Pro 82 BL. On the ATLAS Max 82 continuously adjustable without tools.

Can I get to columns, walls and ramps?

On the ATLAS Max 82 and Air ATLAS Max you adjust the machine body up to 150° during work, continuously or in 12 detent positions – close to walls and floors, pulling or pushing with the Air ATLAS Max.

Can mastic asphalt be milled too?

The PCD Black and Hybrid Grey milling drums list asphalt and mastic asphalt under “suitable materials”.

Can I mill wet to reduce dust?

No. The ATLAS drum milling machines and milling drums are intended for dry use only. The dust is captured right at the milling drum with a vacuum cleaner connected.
