Choose the cup grinding wheel by substrate: abrasive for screed and asphalt, a concrete wheel for concrete

A diamond cup wheel that removes well on concrete is not automatically the best choice on screed – and vice versa. That is why the GADIA cup wheels are built by substrate: two for abrasive materials such as screed and asphalt, three for concrete and mineral substrates, one with T-segmentation for concrete and natural stone.

What matters here

  • One wheel for everything

The GADIA concrete wheels are “suitable” for screed, while the wheels for abrasive materials are “highly suitable” – the substrate decides the wheel.

  • Adhesive residues: not every wheel fits

Carpet adhesive and adhesive residues are only “conditionally suitable” for the Rotor Cup and Rotor-T-Cup3. Mill off thick layers and tough adhesives with a drum milling machine and grind afterwards.

  • Removal depends on extraction

According to the Double-Cup Abrasiv Profi data, optimum removal is only possible with a suitable extraction system2. For dry grinding of materials containing quartz, extraction must meet at least dust class M1.

Step by step

  1. Identify the substrate

The wheels for abrasive materials are highly suitable for screed, asphalt, plaster, aerated concrete and tile adhesive, the concrete wheels for concrete, masonry and brick. For natural stone and granite there is the Rotor-T-Cup.

  2. Screed and asphalt: abrasive wheel

Double-Cup Abrasiv Profi: double-row grinding plate for asphalt and screed floors, holes in the core for weight saving and cooling. Abrasiv-T-Cup: T-segmentation for high removal with controlled running, cut-outs in the core for dust extraction, ideal for renovating screed floors.

  3. Concrete: Double-Cup or Rotor Cup

Double-Cup Classic as the economical solution for concrete surfaces, Double-Cup Profi for more intensive grinding and concrete floors, Rotor Cup in premium quality with alternating segment geometry (short/long) for high removal. All three are highly suitable for concrete, masonry and brick.

  4. Concrete and natural stone: Rotor-T-Cup

The Rotor-T-Cup with T-segmentation is suitable for concrete products, natural stone and granite and designed for renovating concrete floors – with smooth running and a low overall height.

  5. Check machine and extraction

All six wheels come in Ø 125 mm and Ø 180 mm with a 22.2 mm bore. Ø 125 mm fits every TORNADO 125 and the Tornado Maxi BL. A dust class M extractor captures the dust directly at the hood.

Four cup wheels, four substrates

All are diamond cup grinding wheels with a 22.2 mm bore, for dry and wet grinding. The difference lies in the substrate they are built for.

Frequently asked questions

What does “abrasive” mean for cup wheels?

This means building materials that act strongly on the tool, for example asphalt, screed, plaster and abrasive concrete products. The GADIA Double-Cup Abrasiv Profi and Abrasiv-T-Cup are specially designed for working abrasive substrates.

Which cup wheel for concrete?

Double-Cup Classic as the economical choice, Double-Cup Profi for concrete floors, Rotor Cup for high removal in premium quality. For concrete and natural stone, the Rotor-T-Cup.

Can I grind screed with the concrete wheel?

Yes, the Double-Cup Classic, Double-Cup Profi, Rotor Cup and Rotor-T-Cup are “suitable” for screed. “Highly suitable” for screed are the Double-Cup Abrasiv Profi and Abrasiv-T-Cup.

Which cup wheel for adhesive residues?

The Double-Cup Abrasiv Profi and Abrasiv-T-Cup are highly suitable for tile adhesive. For carpet adhesive and adhesive residues, the Rotor Cup and Rotor-T-Cup are only “conditionally suitable” – the ATLAS Max 82 removes thick layers at a defined working depth of 0–10 mm.

Wet or dry grinding?

The GADIA cup wheels are specified for dry and wet grinding. The TORNADO floor grinders work dry only, with extraction at the hood.

Which sizes are available?

Each of the six GADIA cup wheels comes in Ø 125 mm and Ø 180 mm, each with a 22.2 mm bore. Ø 180 mm fits the Genius 2400 Maxi.
