Polishing granite and marble to a high gloss: wet, at constant speed and through every grit

An even gloss on granite and marble needs a complete grit sequence, a speed that holds under contact pressure and a machine built for wet work. POLIFOX wet polishers work water-cooled with constant speed or 7 settings A–G, combined with GADIA Resin Premium diamond pads for wet grinding from coarse grinding to a high-gloss polish.

What matters here

  • Angle grinder: not for wet work

Without water feed, splash guard or protection for wet work, an angle grinder leaves only dry polishing – or water near a motor that is not designed for it.

  • Speed drops under pressure

If the speed drops when you press down, the finish becomes uneven – especially on hard stone and in deeper polishing passes. The result is clouding and dull spots that only show once the gloss is there.

  • Dry grinding means quartz dust

Dry grinding of granite produces fine dust containing quartz. Wet polishing binds it – with a machine built for water.

Step by step

  1. Prepare machine and water

Connect the water hose with its brass quick coupling; the water supply is finely adjustable. POLIFOX machines come with a PRCD safety switch for any socket or with a CEE plug for the TT 2602 isolating transformer. The pad sits on a velcro holder with M14 – GADIA Antishock dampens vibration.

Note: Never run a POLIFOX dry: the machines are built only for work with water supply.

  2. Pre-grinding with a coarse grit

For pre-grinding, power at low speed matters: the Polifox 1700 delivers 1,750 W even in the lower speed range, the Polifox 1802 with 1,800 W and fixed speed is built for continuous use with grinding stones.

  3. Grind through the grit sequence

GADIA Resin Premium comes in graded grits for wet grinding, in Ø 80, 100 and 125 mm – to match the maximum tool Ø of your machine.

  4. Polish to a high gloss

The gloss is created in the fine grits. On the Polifox 1700 the electronics keep the chosen setting constant, even under pressure – for an even surface. For edges and small areas the 2.3 kg Polifox 900 is handier.

Which wet polisher for which job?

All four polish wet with an M14 spindle thread. CON runs at constant speed, VARIO controls the speed in 7 settings A–G.

Frequently asked questions

Which machine do I need to polish granite?

A wet polisher with water supply and a suitable speed. The POLIFOX series ranges from the Polifox 900 (890 W, tools up to Ø 100 mm) to the Polifox 1802 (1,800 W, up to Ø 125 mm). For worktops and surfaces the Polifox 1700 is the professional all-rounder: 1,750 W, 800–3,600 rpm in 7 settings A–G.

Can I polish granite with an angle grinder?

With pads on an angle grinder, polishing is usually done dry. Wet grinding needs a machine with water supply, splash guard and protection for wet work: POLIFOX machines have a splash guard and a PRCD safety switch (DI) or CEE plug for the isolating transformer.

Which grit for polishing granite?

GADIA Resin Premium covers the way from coarse grinding to a high-gloss polish in graded grits. One example of a complete sequence is the GADIA Cyli Set for edges: G50, G100, R200, R400, R800, R1500, R3000 and polisher.

Polish wet or dry?

POLIFOX machines polish wet: the water cools tool and stone and binds the grinding dust. For polishing without a water connection there are the GENIUS polishers with GADIA Easy Dry pads.

PRCD or isolating transformer?

With a PRCD safety switch (DI) the machine works at any socket – for changing work sites. The version with CEE plug is operated on the TT 2602 isolating transformer.
