Removing scratches from a stone window sill: wet grinding and polishing, right at the window

Plant pots, keys, vinegar – the polished window sill shows scratches and dull patches against the light. The Polifox 900 grinds and polishes wet right on the installed sill: 2.3 kg, tools up to Ø 100 mm, plus GADIA Resin Premium diamond pads from coarse grinding to a high-gloss polish.

What matters here

  • The sill stays where it is

Removing the sill is rarely an option: it is bonded in, the reveal and window joint are finished. The work happens between frame and reveal, on a few centimetres of depth.

  • One patch matt, the rest polished

Grinding only the scratch leaves a matt patch surrounded by polish. The sill only looks even again once the worked area has the same gloss as the rest.

  • Water and dust in an occupied room

Ground dry, stone dust flies through the room; ground wet, slurry runs over the edge. So the water flow has to be finely adjustable.

Step by step

  1. Prepare the machine and water

The Polifox 900 comes with a 2.5 m water hose and brass quick coupling, the water supply is finely adjustable and the fitted splash guard keeps moisture away from the motor. Power via PRCD safety switch at any socket or with a CEE plug on the TT 2602 isolating transformer.

Note: Never run a POLIFOX dry: always open the water before switching on.

  2. Fit holder and pads

The pads sit on an M14 hook-and-loop holder. GADIA Antishock damps vibration. GADIA Resin Premium for wet grinding comes in Ø 80 and 100 mm – matching the Polifox 900’s maximum tool Ø of 100 mm.

  3. Grinding through the grits

The depth of the scratch decides which grit you start with. GADIA Resin Premium covers the way from coarse grinding to a high-gloss polish in graded grits. On the VARIO you set the speed in 7 settings A–G between 800 and 3,600 rpm, even while polishing.

  4. Without water: polish dry

Where no water may reach the sill, the Genius 900 polishes dry: 890 W, 2.0 kg, tools up to Ø 115 mm. Add GADIA Easy Dry pads for dry grinding on natural stone and granite, in Ø 80, 100 and 125 mm.
